How people with disabilities feel differently from normal people when they get along with their partners?

People with disabilities sometimes feel they must be especially “good” relational partners to make up for what their lovers are giving up by staying with them—the potential for a “normal” relationship. They sometimes believe they must compensate for their disability-caused relational limitations by being overly giving, supportive partners. One way this gets translated into behavior is denial or suppression of any negative or unpleasant emotions. There is the sense that expression of discontent, including anger, implies that they are ungrateful for their kind treatment. If they internalize the anger, it can lead to self-loathing and/or resentment; if they vent the anger, they run the risk of being perceived as the stereotypical bitter cripple with the expectation that the world owes them.
