What obstacles would people with disabilities encounter in social life?

Adults with disabilities are far less likely to graduate from high school with a diploma and are largely absent from post-secondary education. Rates of poverty and unemployment, as well as food insecurity, are higher for people with disabilities, and individuals with disabilities are twice as likely to be a victim of crime. People with disabilities are also twice as likely to report transportation as a major barrier in their lives. Socially, children and adults with disabilities report feeling socially isolated and that discrimination is a major barrier in their lives. People with disabilities are equally likely to be uninsured and more likely to be covered by publicly funded health insurance. Despite comparable rates of health insurance coverage, adults with disabilities have much poorer health outcomes compared to adults without disabilities and are two to three times more likely to report not having access to needed health care in the past year because of cost.
