A novel intervention program called The Seniors Centre Without Walls targets the social needs of older adults who are socially isolated due to financial, geographical, or physical restrictions. As part of this program, older adults participate in a phone conference, which is facilitated by a leader who provides general aging-related educational information. The conference provides the participants with an avenue to connect with others in the community and make new friends. Participation in this program was associated with increased happiness and lowered loneliness and depression. These findings suggest that even remote or non-face-to-face approaches to social interaction can have a beneficial effect on aspects of successful aging.
