Disabilities affect persons in various ways. People with disabilities experience poorer levels of health than the general population. Three broad categories of health conditions—infectious diseases, chronic conditions and injuries—are the most prominent factors. The increase in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases (heart disease and stroke), mental disorders, cancer and respiratory illnesses will have a profound effect on disability.
