GROUNDWATER – MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE
Groundwater is a critical resource that provides about half of the world’s drinking water, roughly 40% of the water used in irrigated agriculture, and about 1/3 of the water used in industry. It protects ecosystems, keeps rivers flowing at their normal levels, and avoids land subsidence and ocean intrusion. This year, World Water Day will put an emphasis on this often-overlooked resource, improve information sharing and collaboration, and raise awareness of the need to conserve our groundwater.
