The concept of development within the community context deserves closer examination in relation to the issue of community and the right to the city. When community development enters the urban scene with a claim ‘to develop creative locally-based solutions for sustainable community development and neighbourhood revitalization’, how does it transform socio-spatial relationships? Does it make public services more accessible for community or does it contribute to privatization and the gentrification process that lead to the exclusion of marginalized community members? That’s all the questions we need to reflect.
