Sure. You’ve planned your evaluation, and now the work of design, data collection, and analysis begin. There are two broad categories of evaluations: studies of implementation and studies of impact. Using both types of studies together provides a comprehensive set of findings. However, if the number of practices is small, it is difficult to detect a statistically significant “impact” effect on outcomes such as cost and utilization. In such cases, you could review larger, published studies to learn about the impact of the intervention, and focus on designing and conducting an implementation study to understand how best to implement the intervention in your setting.
