Many elderly people with care needs depend on their family members or friends to provide support and assistance. In fact, help from family or friends is often referred to as the “default” long-term care system. These unpaid caregivers do a variety of tasks to support the person needing long-term services and support, including helping him or her with the instrumental activities of daily living, which include shopping, transportation, yard care, home care, meal preparation, and money management.
