One of the most important roles of the social worker may be to help a complementary role arrangement. During the course of medical and, or rehabilitation treatment, social workers need to be able to help the person take control of the process to the fullest extent possible. One of the ways that social workers can do this is by educating and advocating on behalf of the importance and the rights of patients to control these decisions. Another is helping patients to support themselves to realize their wishes and goals. While some patients, due to an inability to articulate their desires or the acute nature of their condition, may not have much control over treatment processes in the beginning, social workers should be expected to work to help them achieve maximal decision-making control as soon as practicable and certainly before they are discharged. This process involves helping patients with the critical change as they move from passive recipients of care in the medical system to active consumers: persons with basic rights and the capacity to understand and even control their treatment.

The issue of youth unemployment is currently a pressing matter, particularly in times of economic hardship. Recent news reports have highlighted that approximately 400 recent graduates have found employment in the Great Bay Area. Could this be considered a sampling strategy if data were to be gathered from all of them?
