“Community” itself is a highly contested term, it can refer to a geographical locality or shared with interest. Social work in deeply divided ‘communities’ is now beginning to receive academic attention worldwide. While these perspectives offer a wider social focus for intervention with oppressed people than systems theory, they both serve to reproduce the existing social order.
