Conducting family work in the home provides several advantages. For example, home-based assessments of family functioning might produce more accurate and complete evaluations of a family than office-based assessments. In the home, family social workers receive immediate and direct information about family functioning and develop a complete picture of the family relationships as members interact within a familiar environment. Most families also appreciate receiving services in the home. Office-based family therapy assumes that the client’s changes during an office interview can be easily applied to settings and situations outside the office in the home and community. Yet, these changes do not consistently or easily transfer from office settings to the home.

The issue of youth unemployment is currently a pressing matter, particularly in times of economic hardship. Recent news reports have highlighted that approximately 400 recent graduates have found employment in the Great Bay Area. Could this be considered a sampling strategy if data were to be gathered from all of them?
