The basic aim of utilizing social systems theory is to assess and determine the target system or subsystem for intervention or to bring about positive change. The assessment is in regard to identifying the main system, the system’s subsystems, and the other systems that are positively and/or negatively affecting the system, but particularly assessing the interaction between all of these systems. Based on this assessment, the social worker is able to determine which system or subsystem requires intervention to bring about the necessary change.
