Sure. In certain situations, a client may exhibit resistance to change or resistance to the social-worker–client relationship. This is often a signal that the social worker has moved ahead of the client and therefore needs to change the strategy, such as reassessing the client’s position in the stages of the change model. We should avoid arguing for change if the client is not in a position to make a change and avoid directly opposing the resistance. We should stay with the client and roll with the resistance.
