Of course, you could. Certain factors associated with mental health conditions may specifically contribute to challenges with engagement. These include high variability in mood, often transient feelings of crisis, reduced motivation, and the heterogeneity of symptoms experienced at the individual level. These, coupled with low levels of app usability, contribute to the difficulty of providing a one-size-fits-all app that is relevant for a specific user, at a specific moment in time. While research does suggest that the app benefit is linked to continued engagement, current understanding of ‘how much’ use is needed, for whom, and under what circumstances, is limited. Therefore, across app treatment studies, the lack of information on dose-effect leaves the field with no clear goal in terms of increasing engagement.
