For most social workers providing services to individuals experiencing a legal problem requires a referral to an agency that can provide legal services or resources where individuals can obtain an attorney or legal advice. Others may provide services to clients experiencing a divorce, custody issues, or bankruptcy. While providing services, these issues may arise but may not be the primary focus of services. Social workers in these settings should possess skills to identify legal problems for appropriate referrals or other actions.
