Dear MEL Institute, we are evaluating the needs of elderly carers in Hong Kong. And we found when the family couldn’t look after the older adult for some reason, they usually got such and had no idea about what to do next. Could you please tell me some support services for this situation? Whom can the carers turn to for help?

They may approach social workers for recommendations and arrangements for older adults during this period. There are many communities support services that can help them when needed, e.g., the respite service in residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) to take care of older adults during carers’ absence.
