For example, if a parent yells at the children to complete their homework but eventually does the work for them, children may learn to rely on their parent’s help every evening. However, if the parent stops doing the children’s homework, the children must learn to finish their homework, either by getting someone else to do it, doing the homework themselves, or suffering the consequence of not doing it at all. We see, then, that the family system adapts in response to one member’s altered behavior.
