The clinician needs to be satisfied that the young person has sufficient understanding about and is able to express:
• The nature of the clinical problem.
• The purpose of treatment and what it involves.
• The seriousness of the treatment.
• The effects of treatment including possible side effects.
• Other treatment options available.
• The consequences of discovery of treatment by parents or guardian.
