Social workers in child welfare have duties to investigate allegations of abuse or neglect and take appropriate actions on behalf of the public, while at the same time helping individuals or families with their private troubles. For example, social workers are expected to protect children, alter family life so that children are safe, and recognize and redress social injustices within the child welfare system.
