Kleepsies and Dettmer (2000) conducted a meta-analysis of studies investigating strategies for managing acutely suicidal patients of all ages. They stress the importance of viewing risk factors within a framework of comprehensive suicide assessment. At the point of acute suicidal emergency, it is important to thoroughly assess comorbid conditions. A high-risk profile includes depression with comorbid alcohol abuse, insomnia, decreased concentration, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive features, and previous history of suicide attempts.
