Alongside research about youth (sub)cultures, research about youth transitions forms one of the strongest bodies of scholarship about young people’s lives. This work tends to focus on key transitions, such as those from school to work, and is often linked with policy changes and debates. Some work within this field draws heavily upon quantitative methods through the use of large-scale surveys and longitudinal analysis of various data sets, whilst in recent years there has been an increase in qualitative work that uses narratives and biographies to access young people’s experiences of transition.
