CMHTOPs are integrated multidisciplinary teams, usually based in secondary care, which are designed to facilitate assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of older people with mental disorders in a continuous and cohesive way. Such teams contrast with single-profession services, such an outpatient’s clinic run by a psychiatrist that is not integrated within a wider system. This definition for CMHTOP is applicable internationally, although there are variations in its structure and function depending on the availability of human resources and other services in each locality.
