There are many professionals who work with behaviour problems in children. In an outpatient setting, a child may be referred to a clinical social worker, a psychologist, or a psychiatrist. Often, schools have their own counsellors who may be able to work with the child. If a child needs a complete psychological evaluation, the child should be referred to a psychologist because psychologists are the only professionals trained to do a full battery of psychological assessments. If the problem behaviour is exhibited by a physical symptom, such as headaches, stomach aches, enuresis, and encopresis, the child should be referred first to the primary care physician to rule out physical causes for the behaviour.
