One of the best ways to develop a helping alliance with your clients is to clearly explain the helping process and your role to work together toward solutions. Many of the difficulties labelled a "resistance" or "lack of cooperation" are attributable to a lack of clarity or unrealistic expectations by your client about what you will or will not do. Thus, part of your responsibility is to work with your clients to agree on the purpose of your relationship with them.
