Codebook on SPSS?

The codebook command was introduced in SPSS version 17. It provides information about the variables in a dataset, such as the type, variable labels, value labels, as well as the number of cases in each level of categorical variables and means and standard deviations of continuous variables.

A codebook is useful when there are different people trying to enter the data. But in my opinion, preparing a codebook is just as painful as data entering... good luck!!!

It is relatively complicated. To code those responses, you are suggested to scan through the answers of each questionnaire and find common themes.
For instance, some respondents indicated pizzas, sushi, curry and dim sum as the major type of their favorite food respectively. Then you could do it accroding to this form,

A codebook is a summary including instructions that a user can use to convert the information collected from each participant or case into a format that is understandable by SPSS.
