Broadly speaking, economic globalisation speaks to the universalisation of neoliberal policies. Essentially, these policies are guided by the belief in the market as central organising principle of human society - the belief in the positive trickle-down effects of a freely operating market. These policies call for government withdrawal from social service or welfare provisions, including those intended to address special needs of disadvantaged population groups such as the disabled. So, what this means, therefore, is that economic globalisation can be a threat to the wellbeing of the disabled, but can also abet disability by denying funding for research and interventions for alleviating disability.
