The WHO (2016) defines that a disability is: “…any condition of the body or mind (impairment) that makes it more difficult for the person with the condition to do certain activities (activity limitation) and interact with the world around them (participation restrictions)”. According to this definition, disablement is an umbrella term, covering impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions (WHO, 2016). It is clear that the current definition is much more focused on the abilities of the person, as compared to the disabilities, which is certainly in keeping with the person-centred philosophy.
