Which is more important in special education? Academic progress or inclusion?

I think both academic progress and inclusion are important in special education as they are complementary and supplementary to each other. Inclusion is successful because classroom adaptations designed for students with disabilities are often also helpful to students without disabilities and students can pursue the same curriculum but proceed at multiple levels and with different objectives. In a truly inclusive setting, every child feels safe and has a sense of belonging. Students could make friendships and increased social initiations, relationships and networks, greater access to general curriculum and enhanced skill acquisition and generalization.
