There are several measures you can use. One is the Parenting Scale (PS) that measures the likelihood that parents will use negative discipline techniques with their children. Another is the Parenting Sense of Competence Scale (PSOC, Johnston and Mash), which measures parents’ sense of confidence in parenting their children as well as their level of satisfaction with their parenting role. Then there's the Parenting Stress Index (PSI), which measures sources and levels of stress associated with the parenting role that parents experience. Finally, the Eyberg Child Behavior Inventory (ECBI) measures parental perception of the frequency and severity of problem child behaviour.
