The primary goals of interviewing include (a) increasing accuracy and reliability of the information, (b) decreasing potential suggestibility, and (c) minimizing trauma. Young children are somewhat more compliant, suggestible, and easily confused than older children. In addition to various abuse-related factors, accuracy is influenced by a child's age, understanding of events, repeated verbal recall, interviewer style and position of authority, and demand for details, as well as by the structure and nature of questions.
