Poverty in the developing world is more associated with the underdevelopment of industrial capitalism. In contrast, the new poverty in advanced cities is induced by developing a new phase of capitalism that goes beyond industrial capitalism and emphasizes the role of knowledge, information, global networks and global finance for capital accumulation and profit generation.
