Step 1: Check each of the variables for a score that does not fall in the range of possible scores
Step 2: Find where the mentioned error is in the data set
Step 3: Correct that error in the data set.

Yes, it is important to screen and clean data because there may be some errors when entering data. Some of them may totally mess up the analyses.
