To evaluate a program focused on meaningful participation among children and staff in residential facilities, consider the following five key points:

Participation assessments: Conduct assessments to evaluate the level and quality of meaningful participation among children and staff within the residential facilities. Utilize validated tools or create customized assessments to measure aspects such as decision-making opportunities, involvement in program planning, contribution to policy development, and engagement in daily activities. Assess the extent to which children and staff feel valued, heard, and included in decision-making processes.

Surveys and interviews: Administer surveys and conduct interviews with children and staff to gather their perspectives on their participation experiences. Ask about their perceptions of meaningful participation, opportunities for involvement, and the impact of their contributions. Inquire about the barriers and facilitators of participation, as well as their suggestions for enhancing meaningful engagement within the residential facilities. Analyze the survey and interview data to identify common themes and patterns.

Program observation and documentation: Conduct observations within the residential facilities to assess the implementation of the program and the extent to which meaningful participation is promoted. Observe interactions between children and staff, staff-staff collaboration, and decision-making processes. Review program documentation, such as meeting minutes, activity plans, and feedback mechanisms, to evaluate the inclusion of children's and staff's voices, ideas, and contributions.

Collaborative initiatives: Evaluate the presence of collaborative initiatives and partnerships within the program. Assess whether the program actively involves external stakeholders, such as families, community organizations, or advocacy groups, in decision-making processes and program development. Analyze the extent to which these collaborations contribute to meaningful participation and enhance the program's impact on children's well-being and staff satisfaction.

Program outcomes and indicators: Determine outcome measures and indicators to assess the program's impact on meaningful participation. Consider indicators such as increased self-esteem and self-efficacy among children, enhanced staff morale and job satisfaction, improved communication and collaboration, and a sense of ownership and belonging within the residential facilities. Collect quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate changes in these indicators over time and their association with meaningful participation.
