When investigating the relations between locus of control and drug abuse for ex-offenders, consider the following five indicators:

Locus of control: Measure the participants' locus of control, which refers to their belief about the degree of control they have over their lives. This can be assessed using validated scales, such as the Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control Scale. The scale measures the extent to which individuals perceive events as being within their control (internal locus) or outside of their control (external locus).

Drug abuse severity: Assess the severity of drug abuse among ex-offenders by measuring indicators such as frequency and quantity of drug use, duration of drug abuse, and involvement in drug-related criminal activities. This can be done through self-report measures, drug screening tests, or official records of drug-related offenses.

Treatment engagement: Evaluate the level of engagement in drug abuse treatment programs among ex-offenders. This can involve indicators such as attendance rates, participation in counseling or therapy sessions, adherence to treatment protocols, and completion of treatment programs. Assessing treatment engagement provides insights into the willingness of individuals to address their drug abuse issues.

Relapse rates: Measure the occurrence of relapse or recurrence of drug abuse among ex-offenders post-treatment. This indicator assesses the program's effectiveness in helping individuals maintain abstinence and prevent relapse. It can be measured through self-report surveys, drug screening tests, or follow-up assessments over a designated period.

Coping skills and self-efficacy: Evaluate participants' coping skills and self-efficacy related to drug abuse. This can involve assessing indicators such as their ability to resist drug-related temptations, employ healthy coping strategies, and maintain a sense of self-control in challenging situations. Use validated scales or qualitative methods to capture changes in coping skills and self-efficacy levels.
