Reflective practice is, in essence, about thinking. Reflective practice involves holistic thinking, which embraces facts and feelings, artistic and scientific understanding, and subjective and objective perspectives. All sources of knowledge need to be recognized and drawn on. Reflective practitioners are those who can situate themselves in the context of the situation and can factor this understanding into the ways in which they practice. This ongoing process of reflection allows practitioners to develop their theory directly from their own experience. It also allows them to practice in ways that are “situated” in the specific context. It allows them to take a holistic perspective because they must consider all factors which impinge on the situation at any given time to interpret their practice relative to its context accurately.
