I think this relates to the social belief that wealth and consumption are indicators of merit and achievement. Social workers need to reflect on the chains of events and types of disadvantage that might result in a ‘cycle of poverty.’ To do this, time for reflective practice, supervision, and training from experts with lived experience is necessary.
