In general, clients often have difficulty trusting others who have not had similar experiences, especially when the subject under discussion is the experience itself or is related to the experience in some way. Recognizing this as a major factor in offering effective assistance, many agencies and resources that provide services to people with disabilities search for and actively recruit people with the same disabling condition as their client population. Suppose they are unable to locate people with the same disability. In that case, they may seek others with a different disability, assuming that there is a commonality in the disability experience that fosters increased trust and the development of a beneficial, professional relationship.
