To obtain the best sense of a child and a child's behaviour, one should gather information in a variety of ways: (a) direct observation of the child, (b) reports from caregivers, and (c) the use of objective screening measures. For any of these methods, it is recommended that the caregiving professional observe the child in different settings and make inquiries of multiple informants. It is important to speak to the child, parents (both, if possible), teachers, and any other adult involved in the care of the child. Children often act differently in various environments, and therefore each informant may have distinct or even contrasting views of the child
