To use a simple random assignment, you start by giving every participant a unique number. You can assign the number according to a random number table or use a random number generator. Then, you can use computer programs or manual methods to assign the participants randomly. For example, you can place all numbers individually in a hat or a bucket and draw numbers at random. When you only have two groups, flip a coin for each number on the list to decide if they’ll be in the control or the experimental group. Or you can roll a dice for each number to decide which groups they will be in.
