When evaluating a program aiming to assess social support and sense of meaningfulness among youth, consider the following five points:

Clearly define program objectives: Clearly articulate the objectives of the program evaluation, specifying the desired outcomes related to social support and a sense of meaningfulness among youth. Define what social support means in the context of the program and how meaningfulness is understood. Determine the specific aspects of social support, such as emotional, informational, or instrumental support, as well as the dimensions of meaningfulness, such as purpose, belonging, or self-worth.

Select appropriate measurement tools: Choose reliable and validated measurement tools to assess social support and sense of meaningfulness among youth. Consider utilizing established scales or questionnaires that capture relevant information, such as the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) for social support and the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ) for meaningfulness.

Recruit participants and collect data.: Recruit a diverse sample of youth to participate in the program evaluation. Ensure the sample represents the target population and includes individuals from different backgrounds, ages, and life circumstances. Collect baseline data on participants' demographics and administer the selected measurement tools to assess social support and sense of meaningfulness. Consider collecting additional qualitative data through interviews or focus groups to gain a deeper understanding of participants' experiences and perceptions.

Analyze and interpret data.: Analyze the collected data to evaluate social support and sense of meaningfulness among youth. Use statistical methods such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, or regression analysis to examine the relationships between variables and identify patterns. Analyze qualitative data using thematic analysis to gain insights into the experiences and factors influencing social support and meaningfulness.

Provide actionable recommendations: Based on the evaluation findings, provide actionable recommendations to enhance social support and promote a sense of meaningfulness among youth. Identify areas for improvement in the program, such as enhancing opportunities for peer interactions, fostering supportive relationships, or introducing activities that promote a sense of purpose or belonging.
