I understand that data should be gathered or collected in an objective and systematic manner, and objective data is free from bias as much as possible. But are there any limitations of the standardized instruments used in data collection, and what should we pay attention to when using them?

A general limitation of standardized instruments is that they rely on self-report. This means that individuals must be willing and able to recall responses to the items contained in the standardized instrument and be able to understand the items. Social workers should be knowledgeable about how the instrument was used in prior research studies and clinical settings, possess the ability to locate and understand scoring information, strengths and limitations of the instrument, psychometric properties, the number of items, and time needed to complete the instrument, among other important pieces of information.
