In my understanding, feminism is particularly appropriate for social work as most social workers are women, and women are often clients or connected to clients of social services. Due to this connection, feminism within social work is termed feminist social work. Although variations exist in feminist social work ideologies, the commonalities among feminist social workers include the following: (1) to end patriarchy; (2) to empower women; (3) to view the person-in-environment (that is, the personal is political); and (4) to raise the consciousness of women and society as a whole in regard to the structural gender inequalities.
