When evaluating a program aimed at spreading knowledge to new dads about how to care for a newborn baby, here are five suitable indicators for evaluation:
1. Knowledge acquisition: Measure the increase in knowledge and understanding of new dads regarding newborn care. This can be assessed through pre- and post-program knowledge assessments or surveys to gauge the level of information gained on topics such as feeding, bathing, diapering, soothing techniques, and safety precautions.
2. Confidence and competence: Evaluate the program's impact on boosting new dads' confidence and competence in caring for their newborns. This can be measured through self-assessment surveys or interviews that gauge how comfortable and capable fathers feel in performing various caregiving tasks and handling common challenges.
3. Active engagement: Assess the level of active engagement of new dads in their baby's care. This can be evaluated by tracking indicators such as increased participation in feeding, diaper changing, and other caregiving activities, as well as increased involvement in play and interaction with the newborn.
4. Bonding and attachment: Measure the program's influence on promoting bonding and attachment between new dads and their infants. This can be evaluated through indicators such as increased frequency and quality of father-infant interactions, improved responsiveness and sensitivity to the baby's cues, and enhanced emotional connection between the father and child.
5. Behavior change: Evaluate the program's effectiveness in bringing about positive behavior changes in new dads' caregiving practices. This can be assessed through observation or self-reporting of changes in behaviors related to infant care, such as adopting safe sleep practices, implementing appropriate feeding routines, and practicing effective soothing techniques.
