Multiple regression analysis allows for assessing the strength of the relationship between the dependent variable and several independent variables as well as the importance of each independent variable to the relationship, with the effect of others statistically eliminated. Like simple linear regression, multiple regression analysis does not establish causation. Multiple regression also builds on correlation, which shows mere associations between variables. We cannot eliminate bias resulting, for example, from unobserved variables, only by applying multiple regression.
