Identity is about ways in which individuals and collectivities are distinguished in their social relations with other individuals and collectivities. It is the systematic establishment and signification, between individuals, between collectivities, and between individuals and collectivities, of relationships of similarity and difference.

For youths, thinking about their identity is a first-time event. As they are starting to wonder who they are and why, they are curious about the factors contributing to their identity.
