Structural equation modeling (SEM) is a statistical methodology for investigating the plausibility of theoretical models that attempt to explain relationships among variables. SEM can analyze independent variables, dependent variables, and error terms within a theoretical framework. It allows operationalization of the constructs, which cannot directly be observed, with different observed variables.
