I understand the two errors is a bit confusing. These two errors are based on whether you have rejected the null hypothesis or not. Type I error refers to your rejecting the null hypothesis when it is correct, and hence it is an error. And Type II error refers to your not having rejected the null hypothesis when it is wrong.
