Is quantitative variable dependent or independent variable?

In my understanding, quantitative variables can be used as both dependent and independent variables if the models are correctly specified. The term “quantitative variable” is not popular because people understand it differently. Someone thinks it refers to the continuous variable. Others may think that as long as the measurement can be quantified, it is a quantitative variable, such as an ordinal variable. Regression models are suitable for continuous variables. But we should apply different techniques when using ordinal variables as a dependent variable (logit model) or an independent variable (creating dummies).
