Factors that can affect the test-retest reliability of a scale used to measure relapse behaviour of a drug user include changes in the drug use behaviour, the length of the interval between assessments, and extraneous factors such as environmental influences. These can be minimized by standardizing the conditions between assessments and controlling for extraneous factors.
