Categorical and continuous Variables
Categorical variables can be further categorized as either nominal, ordinal or dichotomous.

The types of variable are also affected by how you ask the questions and gather the answers... so it is important to think ahead what types of analyses you want to do and so set the questions clearly...

Hi Detomaso, see following:

• nominal variable, which is also known as categorical variable (e.g. gender: male/female)
• ordinal variable (rankings: 1st, 2nd, 3rd)
• interval variable, which is also known as continuous variable (e.g. age in years, or scores on an item of a scale).
